My wife bought me a 68 cj5 for Christmas (yes, she's awesome) and it's now, finally, out of the shop with a new transmission and carb. It already has a 2" lift and I'm going to get a full roll cage, new bumpers, soft top, new lights, etc... but I'm having trouble deciding about brakes/axles.
The drum brakes suck. I didn't think much about it before, but after driving it around for a few days I really want to go to disks. I also want a wider stance. I can either do a brake conversion and get new wheels with a bigger offset (and possibly spacers), or I can replace my axles with wider ones that already have (or are set up for) disk breaks.
I'm not going rock crawling or anything, it's mostly just for weekend drives around town and trips to the ranch. I don't really NEED bad ass axles, but I know basically nothing about any of this. I just want disk brakes and a couple inches of width. Recommendations on which option is best and/or some Jeep forums to check out would be great.
