Long time Chase SW card holder. We typically use it until we get companion pass and then switch to other cards. It's a great perk and has saved us thousands on flights over the years. I had planned to open a new SW card and add our 16 year old as a registered user, give him the card and then have him pay the balance every month as a way to teach him about spending, credit, budgeting, etc. I assumed the signup bonus points would go toward my account and get us halfway to companion status in January...

Come to find out I can't hold our current card and another one at the same time even if they're at different levels (premier vs priority). Any suggestions on how to circumvent this? The key is to get all the points into one rapid rewards account while getting the signing bonus so we cut our companion pass requirement in half. Do I have to cancel my current card and apply for a new one? Do I get the new card in my wife's name and deal with points being split? Should I just forget companion pass and get a different card for the kid?
