“I don’t mind the underdog, chip-on-the-shoulder story,” third-year coach Chris Beard told reporters after his team frustrated Gonzaga, owner of the top offense in the country, in the West Regional final. “But it disrespects these players a little bit when people don’t understand, we have really good players.”
I know he's repeated this at a couple of different press conferences and I'm so glad he keeps reminding the media. Most of the stories about Tech have been very positive, but of course there are a few that make it sound like our program is made up of rejects that no one wanted which couldn't be farther from the truth. And some of the people in press have the gall to ask questions like "How are you doing it with THESE players?" which is about as rude as it is inaccurate in what it suggests.
Hopefully next year after two years in the Elite 8 or better the questions that basically insult our players will start fading away.
