@W. McKay made the drive down to Midland today for the Red Raider Club's recruiting dinner. He was also there for Kliff Kingsbury's media availability. Here are the highlights from Kingsbury's session with the media:

* Kingsbury confirmed Texas Tech's hire of Karl Scott.

"We had just heard good things about him. He's a guy who's worked his way up, obviously. Did a great job at Louisiana Tech. People were raving about him. From Texas originally, wanted to get back. Just kind of worked out. Younger guy but has earned everything he's gotten and excited to get him on our staff."

* Kingsbury said he wants to have a new running backs coach in place by spring football. He said he wants to take his time and "make sure we get the right guy."

* Kingsbury on Pat Mahomes: "I don't think I'd want anybody else in the country, really. When you watch what he was able to do last year, just his second year starting and this year he's not playing baseball so we'll have a full offseason with him. I really think the sky's the limit."

* Kingsbury said that Johnathan Picone has already gained around 15 pounds since he got to campus.

* Kingsbury said he doesn't expect any of the defensive signees to redshirt.

"We're going to try to play them all right away. We don't want to sit or redshirt anybody. We kind of recruited toward that throughout the process knowing that we have some holes to fill. We're going to throw them all out there and see who can play.
