Albany (Texas) wide receiver Dax Neece has several preferred walk-on opportunities, including an offer from the Red Raiders.
Neece has been in contact with the Texas Tech coaches for months and is now weeks away from making his final decision.
"Coach (Jason) Reed basically said they think I'm a good player that can really help them out," Neece said. "As a receiver, the Tech offense is really one of the things I like about Tech, just the idea of playing in that spread offense. I actually visited Tech earlier this season for the game against Iowa State.
"It was awesome, I really liked it. It was an early morning game, but the fans still packed the stadium and I enjoyed the game day atmosphere a lot."
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver is hearing from a handful of programs and is planning to take a few visits over the next two weeks.
"I'm going to Houston for a visit next week," Neece said. "I have a visit setup to Texas Tech in a couple of weeks. I'm still waiting to hear back on a visit from the Texas coaches, but those are the three schools that I'm deciding between. I have a preferred walk-on offer from each of those programs."
Neece shared his thoughts on the recruiting process and looking into the preferred walk-on opportunities.
"All of the coaches have a similar message," Neece said. "I knew a preferred walk-on was a possibility, so I'm just looking into the option and I'm happy to have the opportunities. I will have the opportunity to work hard and earn a full scholarship wherever I choose to play."
Neece finished with 53 receptions for 1,127 yards and 23 touchdowns. He earned APSE 2A All-State Second Team Receiver honors this past season.
