UPDATE: Looked at all of the recommendations here and some other info in books and the web..

We are hitting the following places over 13 days. We are driving from the Houston area.

Santa Fe, Taos/RedRiver in New Mexico and then to Pagosa Springs, Durango and Ouray in Colorado.

Feel free to throw in new info now that we have booked places to stay. Two to three nights in each area except for Ouray, which is just an overnight before driving back home through Lubbock.

Looking for recommendations and y'alls expert knowledge.

Just us and the teen daughter.

We like outdoor stuff. Mainly hiking. Anywhere from 2 to 5 or 6 hour roundtrip hikes. Not afraid of elevation change. Not looking for expert hikes either though. Certianly no real climbing. Just stuff where a good pair of hiking boots, backpack, water and snacks/food are required. Have never used hiking poles, but generally find a good stick somewhere near the trailhead to use.

I believe Red River and Taos are the easy choices, but I know there are people here with insider knowledge.

I've been skiiing several times in New Mexico, but outside of visiting Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands, haven't really been there in the summer.

Side note: If we end up close enough to Santa Fe, we will probably spend a couple of nights there eating and hanging out.

We like craft beer also if that helps.

Likes ahead for your helpful responses.

A couple of New Mexico State ladies for your perusing. The better aggies. They have female cheerleaders and a pom squad.
