Why are so many of our men injured? Why does every team we play against have one RB that plays 85% of the offensive plays and never gets seriously injured? Why does every other team have WRs who have no problem getting off the line of scrimmage when ours do...or getting past our DBs when ours can't? Why can't our DL bring much pressure without blitzing when other teams always seemingly have a hand in our QBs Face?
It's really very simple fellas. They have better athletes than we do. We are very much like a 4A HS team playing against a 6A team. Our best players have to play at 120% from the first kick and they are still fighting an uphill battle. Thats why we see them wearing down as the game goes on. And by mid third quarter we start to see serious gouges in our defense and serious struggles with our offense.
Our best DBS do not have the foot speed to play with even KUs WRs. Our tallest, most veteran WR gets pushed around by smaller DBs. Our RBs are neither fast enough or big enough to be serious threats. Perhaps this is because our OL has difficulty with even a 3 man rush.
I hope the next two weeks and the remainder of the year is spent in trying to secure transfers and JUCOs ready to step on the field. Our talent deficit is immense. And it is at the top of the depth chart more than at the bottom. If we had anything to really help in the reserves, we would be seeing them at least a few times per game to rest starters who are gassed. We may not win another game...serious recovery among the walking wounded is our only hope.
Finally, there are certainly questions we can ask of the coaching. But the vast majority of our struggles are because of the talent and depth of the players that make up this team. AD was trying to be kind in saying this is from many sources...but KK had this team for 6 years. We have this squad of players because of what he failed to do.
