I just started Memorial Day looking at a story about a guy who became a Navy Corpsman so he could support Marines and learn to be a medic, to get medical training for his future. It is a worth while read.
Then, I, and I find myself pushing myself to support this, either because I think it is right or I am feeling guilty as a citizen of the USA or both, am going to watch a tv show.
There is a significant set of stories basically asking us as a Nation to educate ourselves and reflect on our history of a Nation in terms of how we have behaved towards fellow citizens who are black. I just mentioned to my bride that I will make myself, today, watch one of, I think, the three stories being aired about the 1921 Tulsa 'riot' by white citizens against their black neighbors who happened to have built a thriving community of citizens that was recognized and respected as "Tulsa's Black Wall Street" or words to that effect.
There is and will be a large back lash from this, there will be debates about what to do with this, and maybe we can find a way to use our history to help our future. Me? I am clearly not smart enough and am not influential enough for what ever reasons to really help solve any of the issues that will be discussed. The best I can do is make myself show an example and present the hope that we as a nation can do something worthwhile for all of us as we look back and reflect. I haven't any answers or worthy ideas for answers. There is an elephant in the room so to speak and it is our elephant.
