@C. Level caught up with Coach McCasland following the game. Audio via the Texas Tech Sports Network.
How proud of you of your team after not only getting the win but coming out aggressive early and taking control of the game?: "Man, just thrilled. You know, you don't get very many opportunities just to test yourself on the road in environments like this, in the Big 12 with this history. And just the key to all of it is just, how do you how do you stay in it together? And that's what I love about this team. And we shot it well, obviously, to start the game, I did; felt like we threw the first punch, which is what you feel like you have to do in this building, but in the second half, we didn't shoot it well. And I'm not trying to speak this into existence at halftime, but I'm like, it's not gonna matter how many shots we make in the second half. It's gonna matter like, are we gonna, are we gonna go toe to toe? When, when we're not, you know? And that's honestly what I felt like. It was the key to it is just like, how do you how do you keep fighting when things aren't going your way? That part I just was, couldn't been more thrilled with our team, and it's somebody different that's what makes this team great. Like Federiko was the one that I felt like stabilized us in a game where JT got in foul trouble, and he started out so good, but then Hunter's such a force down there, you got to know how to deal with him as the game goes on. And then there's Fede making it hard on Hunter in those last few possessions to make it difficult and find a way. And then there's fed a roll into the basket and getting a layup when the game's on the line. It's just awesome. That's what, that's what being a part of a team is awesome."
You shot the most three point attempts in school history, and also dealt with foul trouble so did this matchup need a little bit of a different game plan in order to get the win?: "Well that's what we felt like, is our strength, right? And if they're not going to take away your strength, and you can get rhythm ones. I mean, I do think a few of them were a little in distance, but for the most part, you know, they are a really good, physical, defensive team. I mean, that's a fact. I mean, in the way they play with Hunter and Adams, and with Dickinson Adams, and the way they have size at the basket and Harris, you've got to figure out a way to get them leveraged. And then once you leverage them, I mean, you saw the twos we had to take. I mean, none of them were great when you went one-on-one around the basket; that wasn't the advantage. I mean, they had us pushed out pretty good, and so just keep moving the ball. And I thought the key to it was just how many offensive rebounds could we get. And we ended up with six, which wasn't enough. And I think that's what the difference in the second half was. I mean, we couldn't get enough of those, but giving them credit, man, it's a great defensive team, and they make you, they make it difficult on you. Only turning it over eight times and then making the threes when they mattered was the difference in the game."
How much different is your team when you have all your pieces back together playing?: "Yeah, I mean, foul trouble got us a little bit behind, but that's what happens when you do have everybody, then you can withstand and then you can keep getting better because of it. And obviously, we've got a long way to go. We can get significantly better, but to find a way to win in this gym on the road says a lot about the heart of this team."
