Not this year anyway.

I am hearing this from people who know and people who I trust.

@codycc64 Cody Campbell (not my source(s)) has been right about a lot and he is very plugged in to some very important folks and very important conversations, BUT the reason why Cody shares so much here is because he has very few actual avenues (yet) to make any serious change. Cody hopes that if enough of us get as pissed as he is that the Chancellor, President, and Board of Regents fire or force Kirby to make a move. So far, everyone at the top is bunkered down so it amounts to not much more than noise and sabre-rattling. Those are the facts whether you or I think that they should be or not. Kirby is holding fast and hard to his choice (and it was only his choice-which I did and somewhat still do admire his convictions) and in my opinion has tethered himself to the success and/or failure of this singular hire.

If Wells doesn't earn the first winning conference season since 2009 next year and a bowl invitation, so 7-8 wins, Wells MUST BE removed and possibly Kirby along with him.

That will and would be enough to buy Wells the 4th season of his 6 year contract. Kirby knows that 2021 will still be somewhat effected by the 2020 coronavirus and the changes that have come to our society because of it. 40,000-50,000 fans will be the realistic expectation and will fluctuate based upon many factors. I PLAN TO RENEW SEASON TICKETS. My support is because it is Tech Football and I went during the Moore Excitement years, Spike's early losing seasons, Mike's years, Tuberville's piss me off years, Kliff's up and down years, and Matt's very much like Moore's years.

I said all of that to set up this, since Matt isn't going anywhere and we need to look at what lies in the near future, here are our one-score games that could have gone either way:

11/28/20 Loss AT 44-50 Oklahoma State
11/14/20 Win VS 24-23 Baylor
10/24/20 Win VS 34-27 West Virginia
9/26/20 Loss OT VS 56-63 Texas
9/12/20 Win 35-33 VS Houston Baptist
11/23/19 Loss 27-30 VS Kansas State
11/16/19 Loss 31-33 VS TCU
10/26/19 Loss 34-37 AT Kansas
10/12/19 Loss OT 30-33 AT Baylor

Out of 21 total games as HC of Tech, he has had us in 9 one-score games. (43%) Wells is (3-6) in those games and (3-2) this year as opposed to (0-4) last year.

I am not a fan of his in-game decision making and feel that he is the main reason why his team isn't successful, BUT if he will take care of business on Saturday against Kansas and then take his (8-14; .364) team into Year 3 to a 7-8 win, winning conference record, and bowl game, I WILL GET ON BOARD for Year 4.

But please Kirby and TTU Administration: If he loses to Kansas, fire him! If he fails to win 7-8 next year, fire Him! If he fails to earn our first winning Big12 season since 2009, fire him! Our University, our alumni, our current student body, and future generations of Red Raiders demand and deserve better!
