This wasn't publicized much at all, but I happened to catch this when watching Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope's weekly YouTube COVID-19 video that Matt and Jen Wells made a six-figure donation to the South Plains COVID-19 Response Fund today.
"We accepted the first private gift for this campaign from the Wells," Pope said in the video. "It's a six-figure gift. It is substantial. It shows their heart."
Texas Tech sent out a press release earlier today that mentioned the Wells' family donation, but did not detail the amount.
“We really wanted to give back and start this campaign off on the right foot,” Wells said. “Jen and I have thought about this, have prayed about it and feel blessed in the support we’ve received from Lubbock and Red Raider Nation in the last year we’ve been here. To be able to give back to the people around here and these non-profits, and for them to use it in a right way is something we want to do.”
