5:42p Sat update
We never broke out of the clouds, so it’s only made it to the mid 60s. About 50 mi east of here there’s been sun and it’s in the 70s. So kickoff will be cooler, but temp won’t really drop much because it’s so humid. Since it’s stayed cool we haven’t had storms pop up here. Some storms have popped up west in NM, not a concern here.
Saturday morning update
No significant change in the forecast...decent chance for drizzle or rain late morning to mid-afternoon. It's 60 with fog at 10 a.m. The rain chance slowly drops through afternoon and evening. By late afternoon some storms are possible, though the better instability for storms vs. just rain is farther west near the state line.
For late afternoon through kick it still might not be a bad idea to have the poncho handy. The simple forecast is tomorrow...sun returns and it's up near 80.
Friday afternoon update
If you live out of town and got into Lubbock this afternoon...yes, it's been like this all week, with some off-and-on rain, temperature near 60. It'll likely stay cloudy most of Saturday, possibly with some sun by late afternoon. No change on the temp...high close to 71, kickoff around 68 dropping into the mid to low 60s late.
40% chance for rain in the morning through early afternoon, 30% chance for a shower or storm during the afternoon, down to a 20% chance 6 to 8 p.m., dropping even lower after that.
If it stays overcast all day then it probably would be just rain, no lightning. If we get some sun in the afternoon it could create just enough instability for lightning. But again...the better chance for rain is before the game, but can't rule out an isolated shower or storm during the game.
Thursday evening update
The rain chance has gone up some...around a 20% chance for a shower or storm at Jones Stadium Saturday afternoon and evening. It'll be cool enough to where it could just be rain, unlike the Arizona State game where we knew if it rained it would be a strong storm with lightning.
It's tough to say when the clouds will break. It'll likely be overcast in the morning, with a little bit of sun by late afternoon. Kickoff near 69, end of the game around 64. Sunset 7:33 p.m.
Wednesday afternoon update
High Saturday in the lower 70s, clouds early in the day with some sun during the afternoon.
Kickoff in the upper 60s dropping a few degrees during the game. Wind SE/S 5-12mph. Just a low chance for a shower or storm in the afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon update
No change in the forecast...still looks like 60s during the game Saturday. There is a low chance for a storm Saturday, but a far cry from the likely rain setup next couple days here.
Sunday afternoon update
No doubt, Tech will open conference play with much cooler weather than each non-conference matchup. Right now it looks like the game will be in the 60s. Sunset is 7:33 Saturday.
We had some rain in Lubbock early this morning. If you live in Lubbock, more is expected late tonight and next few days. 60s and 70s all week. Computer guidance is in good agreement for the next few days, but different models diverge by late week. The warm/cold pattern is pretty certain over the next seven days, but it's not too clear if there will be any rain Saturday or if everything will dry out by then. Right now it looks like a good rain chance every day through Thursday, then dropping off from there.
