OK. I get it.
So many times I get wrapped up. Just wanting that win.
And as a Tech Fan, we all know how hungry we are for that title, in any Major sport.
We are starving for it.
Monday hurt so bad. We were so close. We had it in our hands. And it slipped away.
But when the curtain was pulled back, after the game, I saw so much more.
These young men, and their coach.
The Raw Pain, The Shared Love for each other, Brothers.
From the emotion on the floor after the game, to locker room footage, to the press conference, even a day later to the return home at the USA.
Their body language... Defeated, Heads Down, Sunken Shoulders.
It was so hard to see. So much harder than the loss.
But after seeing these kids put it all out there, And seeing how hard they fought for one another, their coach, and at the end of the day, Our School and All of Us. Even those new guys, who had only been here a year....They all took that weight upon themselves.
And that's when I realized
It's the culture of family, of excellence, accountability....
Everything Coach Beard talks about.
It was real to me, because I could see it was to them...
Then I really started to think about our bigger role as fans.
Or at least how I choose to look at my role as a supporter of Tech Athletics moving forward.
Yes. We are the cheers that they hear, we are the masses in the stands, the hands reaching out for high fives, and autographs we are the anonymous voice on the message boards....
We are their security blanket. And they need us... Really now more than ever.
And the folks of Lubbock, really are the best.
They were when I went to school there, everywhere where ONE WOULD CHOOSE TO LOOK.
They look out for one another, they always have had to.
You guys are awesome. I wish I could have been there.
So... Thanks to the folks of Lubbock.
Thanks for the fans that hit the road to Minnesota...
Thanks for the fans that showed up, and made road games sound like home games.
Let's do this shit again, and again.
Let's do everything we can for these kids.
Let's be more than fans that are loud and happy when we win.
Fearless Champions.
