When Iron Age Gods were around we did not understand the universe we lived in. Thousands of gods were invented by our diverse cultures to explain the world around us. As humanity grew in number and began to form armies and start killing each other in staggering numbers religious dogmas expanded to offer another life (if you followed guidelines) but these ideas in modern times have been debunked. Our evolutionary history may explain why so many of us still cling to these ancient rituals and ideas, but they are beginning to fade ever more rapidly. We now know that our universe eventually will die and our own galaxy will be isolated from all light in the universe and even it will eventually die a cold death.
we are left to make purpose for ourselves, moving away from the illusion of myths and have awe at our ability to understand our universe and that spirituality is true and trumps that of old myths. Which is the same as sitting around staring at a navels. With science we can continue to explore the universe we live in, and it seems countless others as the Multiverse idea is gaining ever more credibility, and the ancient religious myths are being seen (as we see here) an appalling moral system from scripture or the naive idea that your being good because you Scared of god....we ourselves have to develop our own morality. Those who are clinging to myths to judge others is an appalling moral lesson. We have been getting better each decade by moving away from the moral lessons in the OT and witnessing the blood and death in other cultures. We now treat women as equal (although I grew up in churches in the 60s that women were not (had to have something on their heads and so forth) women can now vote....gays are now accepted as normal.....so we as humanity are developing better morality. We are getting our morals from reason, not hate.
Still this is Sunday, so the righteous can go to their church and listen to hate (preachers telling you that gays will burn in hell along with the "bad" people like forfeit who point out that although some religions can bring social belonging and help you find some peace the truth of your life is only within you.
