Lake Tahoe advice

Planning a trip in February with four couples. Should we stay north or south? Outside of renting a car how difficult is it to get from the airport to South Lake Tahoe? Half of the couples want to stay in a casino/resort and half want to rent a house. Also which mountains should we ski? Only one of the eight people going has been and he says South Lake Tahoe and Heavenly Resort. Any advice/suggestions?
