Here is Kliff's coaching career before we hired him in 2013:

2008–2009 Houston (OQC)
2010–2011 Houston (Co-OC/QB)
2012 Texas A&M (OC/QB)

Kliff was OC at aTm in 2012 when Manziel got the Heisman. But before that, he had only been Co-OC, QB coach, and quality control coach at Houston.

Manziel turned out to be a flash in the pan, but he and Kliff were getting a lot of hype in 2012. No doubt that hype caused us to make a bad decision to hire Kliff as our head coach in 2013. Kliff just didn't have the experience to be a head coach in Division I college football.

So I got to wondering where Kliff would be if he hadn't ridden the hype machine with Manziel. This is all speculation, of course, but I'm thinking he would have been at aTm as OC until about 2014 or so, when he would have taken another OC job at another - probabally smaller - school. Even as of 2017, I don't think anybody would have made him a head coach yet.

Just my thoughts. What do you think?
