...while I know that this is a long shot that they all see and read this thread, I do want to take a moment to thank each of them for their playing careers, coaching careers and time at Texas Tech University.
Obviously, what began as a dream for each of them when they wrapped up their playing days became a reality three years ago. They took on the task of healing a hurting and fractured Red Raider fanbase with the hopes of taking our beloved Scarlet and Black to greater heights than ever before realized on the South Plains.
A 7-0 record and Top 10 ranking had everyone believing that it would happen sooner rather than later. All wins with two true freshman quarterbacks, one a walk on, piloting the offense and a defense that was making enough plays that we all wondered if we were witnessing the start of the greatest times in Texas Tech football history.
Then the bottom fell out and honestly paved the way for where we find ourselves today. The bandaid of a beautiful Holiday Bowl victory over ranked Arizona State gave many of us a sense of renewed hope but 4-8, Wally and stolen signs led us into the pressure cooker that 2015 would become.
7-5 with wins at Arkansas and Texas and a win over Kansas State is improvement. Going to a bowl game in a month is improvement. But with the returning roster being 4-8 to 7-5 talent again next year, is it enough?
Three years into the dream, it feels like Kingsbury is having to admit that the dream plan didn't work and that we are still having to start over and try something different, something new. It hasn't been from lack of dreaming. It hasn't been from lack of caring enough, working hard enough or trying enough.
If any of you read this, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you for bleeding Scarlet and Black. Thank you for doing your best everyday to try and lead us to places we've never been before. Thank you for leaving it all out there. I appreciate you. My children and I were sad to read that this chapter is over. You are our favorite coaching staff to have ever been assembled in any sport and at any time mainly because we felt and know that you guys are one of us. I know that this hurts you and stings. It hurts us too. I know that you all want for Tech to succeed into greatness and I know in that regard that nothing has changed.
To those that are already gone: thank you. To those that are here: we still have a chance to make history. Strive for honor evermore. Long live the Matador!
