Just taking a look at the last -- and only time -- Kirby fired a head football coach. No inferences, just facts.

* He fired Randy Shannon just hours after Miami's last football game in November 2010, a 23-20 loss to S. Florida. There were only 27,000 in attendance in the 73,000-seat stadium, and attendance had been poor even by Miami standards all season.

* Miami finished the season 7-5. Shannon was 28-22 in four seasons, 2007-2010. His other seasons were 5-7, 7-6 and 9-4. Miami didn't win a bowl game under Shannon, and never finished higher than second in their ACC division.

* Kirby didn't hire Shannon. He came a year later in 2008.

* Just before the 2010 season, Shannon received a four-year extension. His buyout was $1.5 million.

* Shannon was a former Hurricane. He was an outside LB for Jimmy Johnson from 1985-88.

* Earlier in the season, Kirby fired women's soccer coach Tricia Taliaferro, saying that all Hurricanes teams should be judged by how they do nationally.

* Two weeks later, Kirby hired Al Golden from Temple. He went 32-25 in five seasons, and was fired after the 2015 season.
