Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury and outside receivers coach/special teams coordinator Darrin Chiaverini were featured on 'Red Raider Football with Kliff Kingsbury' on Thursday.

Notes and quotes from the hour-long program are below.

KLIFF KINGSBURY
  • "Hopefully (the UTEP game) is the start of something good when it comes to turnovers and penalties."

  • "When (DeAndre Washington) has a good game, we usually play well on offense. Our offensive line was moving bodies. We were playing at a fast tempo, which we want to do."

  • Kingsbury said that Washington "timed as the fastest running back this spring."

  • Kingsbury said that Pete Robertson is the "heart and soul" of the defense. "Having him back, the way he plays the game, was big for that side of the ball."

  • John White was Texas Tech's Special Teams Player of the Week last week. "I have a lot of respect for that young man."

  • Kingsbury said the team feels "comfortable" with both Michael Barden and Clayton Hatfield at kicker.

  • "I think Arkansas had a bad day and Toledo took advantage of it. We're still going to be facing a great team on Saturday."

    FIRST BREAK
  • Kingsbury confirmed that he's spent some time around Chip Kelly, called him "very sharp."

  • What coach that he's worked with would be the best to have dinner with? "As far as getting your money's worth, and touching a vast array of topics, there's no beating Mike (Leach)."

  • "I'm sure we'll see (Arkansas') best shot."

  • "(The players) don't forget what happened to them last year."

  • Kingsbury said that he's been asked by recruits to FaceTime with recruits' girlfriends or prospective girlfriends. Little wing man action for Kliff.

  • "I choose to believe that (Tom Brady's) innocent." Kingsbury said that there's been doctoring of footballs at every level of football that he's played.

  • Kingsbury said that Pete Robertson is "one of the toughest players" he's ever been around. "Having him back last week really made a big difference on that side of the ball. [...] He brings a lot of energy to our football team."

  • "We'd love to have (coaching stability on defense), especially the group that we have now. Coach Gibbs has done a fantastic job. [...] I couldn't be more pleased with him. I hope we can keep him here a long time."

  • No serious superstitious habits for Kingsbury before games, but... "If we played well, I'm not changing anything at all."

  • "Last year, when we were going through some tough games, I had some tough email questions being asked. It's part of it."

  • "I'm just a protein shake guy (for breakfast). [...] It's easy and fast. Mix it up and go."

    SECOND BREAK
  • On Justin Murphy's performance against UTEP: "That was probably the most active game I've ever seen by an offensive lineman. [...] He's got a great future ahead of him if he keeps playing like that."

  • "We've worked on controlling his emotions. There were a lot of fights during camp (laughs). But he's got it figured out right now and hopefully that continues."

  • Kingsbury said that Justin Stockton's "speed on gamedays" is "something else."

  • Kingsbury said that Arkansas is "predominantly a zone team" that tries to keep everything in front of them. "They've had a bunch of shutouts and big games defensively."

  • "They got after us last year on both lines, offensively and defensively. We're trying to make amends for that. Hopefully we've progressed and grown in both areas. I'd like to see that Saturday."

  • "It's an unbelievable opportunity. [...] To play an SEC team at night, it's going to be a great atmosphere."

  • On uniforms for Saturday: "You'll just have to tune in, check'em out and see what we've got."
