Was at the game, just got home from work and watched it on DVR. My take... I know giving up 70 points sucks, but our defense played good football for three quarters. Flood gates opened in the 4th. They just wore down, and I blame the BS bye week rule by the administration. It's 100% a disadvantage when we're going against teams who have had a week to get healthy and get some rest, when we haven't had that luxury. It's really frustrating when your own school puts you at that much of a disadvantage!
Overall, I really don't understand everyone panicking. We almost beat a team that's more talented than we are and undefeated. Nobody on this board would've predicted 8-9 wins in the offseason, yet now that it's looking like 6 wins probably everyone is acting like we're underachieving. We knew this defense was bad. We knew we had depth issues. But when these issues show up we're gonna freak out... I don't get it.
We're a borderline average team, but there obvious reasons why that's the case. There's not a defensive player on the roster that has EVER had the chance to play for the same coach in back to back seasons. When a team is learning a new defense, they spend most of their 1st year trying to learn what they're supposed to do. The following years they simply improve and start to actually master it and make plays. Everyone on the roster has had to take that 1st step every year. From what I've seen from Gibbs, as long as he sticks around I think we'll start to see some real improvement on the back end of next season. With Pat leading this offense, an average defense will make us Big12 contenders. This season has met expectations for me, which in my eyes is a posative and reason to be excited for the future.
