Johnny Dawkins is out as Stanford's coach after eight seasons, ESPN reported Monday.
Dawkins was 156-115 as the Cardinal's coach, leading the school to just one NCAA Tournament appearance, making it to the Sweet 16 in 2014. Dawkins did lead the Cardinal to two NIT championships but the mediocre success in the up-and-coming Pac-12 led to his demise in Palo Alto.
Stanford went 66-78 in the Pac-12 under Dawkins, finishing seventh or worse in the conference in five of his eight seasons.
Dawkins, 52, played his college career Duke from 1982-86, becoming a two-time All-American and national player of the year as a senior.
He played nine seasons in the NBA after being selected 10th overall in the 1986 NBA Draft. After professional basketball, Dawkins joined Mike Krzyzewski's staff at Duke in 1998.
