Preseason Hype:

Preseason AP Poll had them #22 in the country
Picked to finish 4th in the Big 12 in the media prediction, with 5 first-place votes
Vegas had them around 8.5 wins this season
Jalon Daniels picked to win Big 12 Comeback POTY, and appeared on every preseason watch list (Walter camp, Heisman, Maxwell, etc.)
Most of the rest of their offense returned, including their top 4 receivers and their top 2 running backs
2023: Averaged 35 PPG, largely with a backup QB
Finished last season ranked #23 in the final AP poll, first time they had finished ranked since 2008
2023 was also their first winning season since 2008

Today:

1-4, with their only win being against Lindenwood (?)
Averaging 23 PPG against FBS opponents
Jalon Daniels is completing 53% of his throws for 800 yards, 5 TDs and 8 INTs, has thrown 2nd most INTs in the country
They opened this week as 3-point underdogs against Arizona State

The loss of their OC Andy Kotelnicki to Penn State has taken all the wind out of their sails. They replaced him with Jeff Grimes, who'd just gotten canned by Baylor for having the most pedestrian offense in the country. Looks like their offensive production has basically been reduced by a third, despite returning all of their starters.

They were decent for ONE year, and they let it go to their heads. If you've ever met a Jayhawks fan (especially during basketball season), you know not to feel sorry for them one bit.
