Ok, admittedly there are some potential shameful moments in this post, please it is at a Minor League venue, so you be the judge.
I went to the Odessa Jackalopes (hockey) game tonight and it turns out that Candice Cameron-Bure and Val Bure’s son is playing for Odessa in this game. Apparently it’s kinda like a trial run or something, I dunno how hockey works. He was literally the only one in the full face mask so I’m guessing he’s under 18. Oh, and Val Bure, for those that don’t know, is Pavel Bure’s younger brother who also played in the NHL.
Long story short, I find my way into the Owner’s Box right as the 3rd period is drawing to a close with the score tied, 3-3. Game goes into OT and then a shoot-out. At this level the shoot-out is 3 rounds before it goes to Sudden Death. After 4 rounds we’re tied at 1-1 in the shoot-out. Candice and Val are in the box not 5 feet from me and their son, who has played sparingly, comes out to take the last shot of the 5th round and put a tremendous move on the keeper and slaps it into the back of the net to win the game. It was pretty cool being that close to his parents and watching them when it happened. Apprently this is first time skating at a “professional” level - I think.
We’re all jumping up and down and celebrating and the Owner of the Jack’s comes over and hugs Candice and says, “I feel like I’m in a Hallmark Movie.”
Next thing I know there are like 27 10-12 year old girls in front of the window of the box trying to get their picture with Candice. I feel like for Odessa it’s hard to have a better night than that.
So can I brag about this moment? Or only in Odessa?
NOTE: I also want to make it perfectly clear that I do not live in Odessa.
