I hate to admit it, but I don’t believe any Big 12 team this season truly worthy of a playoff spot. If the selection were based purely on identifying the best teams rather than rewarding conference champions, I don’t think the Big 12 would have been represented. Unfortunately, this only reinforces the narrative that the SEC and Big Ten are superior—and so far, we haven’t done much to challenge that perception. The gap will likely continue to grow as those conferences become even wealthier and more dominant.
That said, I’m hopeful the Big 12 can find a way to achieve unified success and elevate the level of play across the board. However, as things stand, we’re heading into an offseason where the media will likely knock us down even further, making the perceived climb back that much harder.
