Wanted to do a retrospective on what Texas Tech's newest cornerbacks coach Darcel McBath has done in his time in the same position at power conference schools where he was the CBs coach at Washington State in 2017 and 2018 under HC Mike Leach and at Mississippi State from 2020 to 2023.

The following players are the ones that McBath and the coaches signed to the cornerbacks room, what they did under McBath at that stop and where they are now. Let's jump into it.

2017 Washington State

Hicks III spent two seasons under McBath, playing in 16 games and logging one pass breakup in his true freshman 2017 season. Hicks would develop into a starter for the Cougars, spending the entirety of his five year career in Pullman. He logged 24 starts in 46 games with 127 takcles, 2 picks, 3 forced fumbles and 12 pass breakups. Hicks started his coaching career at WSU as a defensive graduate assistant in 2024.

Webb never appeared for Washington State and was arrested in 2017.
2018 Washington State

McKenzie spent one season at Washington State and transferred to Cal Poly where he spent the rest of his collegiate career.

2021 Mississippi State

Hardrick spent two seasons in Starkville and appeared in one game against FCS Tennessee State on 11/20. He transferred to Miami (OH) where he has played in 18 games and logged five pass deflections over the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Hampton spent one season at Miss. St., transferred to Southern Miss where he still is but has only appeared in one career game.

2022 Mississippi State

Miller spent one season in Starkville then transferred to South Alabama where he has been a two year contributor in Mobile.

Nicholson was a JUCO signing for Miss. St. that played in 25 games in two seasons for the Bulldogs. He logged 47 tackles and three PBUs under McBath and spent 2024 with USC where he played all 12 games, logging five pass breakups this season.

2023 Mississippi State

Jones spent one year under McBath and has been an early contributor for the Bulldogs, playing in 13 games in two years as a freshman and redshirt freshman. He logged 29 tackles and a pass deflection this year.

Pollock, the now Red Raider, is one of the best to come from the McBath tree. An instant contributor, playing in 11 games and starting three under McBath in 2023 before starting 11 games in 2024 as a true sophomore. Pollock has 72 career tackles, 11 pass deflections and an interception in his two year Bulldog career and is projected to be a starter in Texas Tech's 2025 cornerback room.

Evans did not appear in 2023 for Miss. St and is now at Miami (OH) where he played in all 14 games in 2024, logging 31 tackles and three pass deflections.

James signed as a corner but played one game as a safety in 2023 before transferring to Southern Miss for the 2024 season.
