◾ Despite all the racket you may have heard coming out of Austin, it appears there will be no "Urban" renewal at Texas anytime soon. Because of lingering health concerns that led him to leave positions at Florida and Ohio State, Urban Meyer reportedly has no interest in coming out of retirement now. Texas boosters would have ponied up the $25 million or so needed to buy out Tom Herman and his staff if it meant hiring one of the nation’s best college coaches. They may not be inclined to cash in the kids’ inheritances for the likes of Mario Cristobal or Matt Campbell. Here’s betting Herman remains in place for at least another year. Makes the Kardashians seem stable, doesn’t it?
◾ If Herman isn’t going anywhere, what about the guy at the other end of the Texas-OU rivalry? Oklahoma fans love Lincoln Riley, as they should. But so do NFL types who flock to Norman to consult Riley about offensive concepts. Considering Kliff Kingsbury’s rebirth as an NFL coach, not to mention the success of former Sooners Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield, Riley’s NFL prospects never seemed brighter. Of the openings available, the opportunity to work with Deshaun Watson in Houston would seem appealing to a guy who’d like to work in the NFL eventually, or so insiders tell me.
