OK, so we tried this for the first time over the weekend since they recently contracted with HEB. It's easy to see how they make their money. Most items seemed to be marked up around 20%, so even with no-to-low delivery fee, they're raking it in. If it were up to me, we'd simply drive to the store and buy our own groceries, however Mrs. Woody feels that the inconvenience of taking 2 kids (under 5 years old) to the store easily justifies the cost for the service.
The online ordering process was easy, but the shocker came was when it gave me the option to tip on the credit card as I purchased. It suggested 15% and even 20% as options! I'm not sure about you guys, but our grocery shopping bill runs around $250-$300. So, it was suggesting I tip around $35-$60 just for one delivery of groceries! That's ridiculous, IMO. I throw the pizza guy a few bucks, how is this much different?
Anybody use this yet or have thoughts on how to tip for the Instacart?
