I'm sure most of you on this board know who Tommy McVay is. His title is Director of Football Operations and is responsible for the interactions with the Pro Scouts that come in to evaluate players. Tommy is in his 22nd year at Tech and goes back to Spike Dykes time. I've been attending the Tech football luncheons here in Midland (as many as I could) since 07, and think the world of Tommy and his commitment to Texas Tech.
In my opinion, I think Tommy believes in Kliff 100%, and that the program is headed in the right direction. I base this on comments he has made at several of the talks he has given this year and last. He's not going to campaign for Kliff. That's not something he would do. It's not his place. But, if you hear the man talk, you know he is a believer in Kliff and this current staff that is in place. And if Tommy is a believer, then so am I.
I was at Tech when Jim Carlen was HC, so I've seen the good and the bad. I know this board is pretty evenly split on Kingsbury. Some of you can't wait to get rid of him and bring in somebody new, and you make convincing arguments to do just that. I'm as passionate about my university as any of you and I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong in wanting to make a change. At the beginning of this season, I was in the "We need a minimum of 8 wins and then win a bowl game for a 9-4 season" camp. But the more I listen to Tommy, I've come around to giving Kliff another year. We've been in every game this year right down to the wire except for Ole Miss, and we've done that in spite of two out of three QB's missing multiple games due to injury. By the same token, our OL can't run block for shit, we commit way too many dumbass penalties, and some of the coaching decisions/play calls are dumbfounding. That's on Kliff.
I doubt I'm going to change any minds on this board just based on a feeling that is derived from one assistant coach's statements, and that's ok. Just thought I'd share my perspective.
I rarely post and now I'll go back to lurking. Carry on.
