nearly 3 years in, and kliff has one regular season win against a team with a winning record: 7-6 utep from the disastrous 2014 campaign. none in-conference and none against a power five program.
the jury is out on arkansas this year, but it will be very close for them. kansas state is not likely to finish with a winning record, and it will take a huge upset of texas, west virginia, or oklahoma state to (potentially) increase that number to 2
furthermore, some concerning traits have carried on over the last 3 years under his guidance: mid-season collapses, uncompetitive in the conference, team continues to have a lot of quit in them, lots of transfer drama, stolen signals by multiple teams all three years, arguably the three worst defenses of all time, and consistently concerning play calling from a coach whos entire reputation is based upon playcalling
but the biggest concern i have is that none of the players seem to improve from year to year, or even game to game. webb completely bottomed out after a promising freshman year, and mahomes/stockton/lauderdale/everybody else are really starting to trend downward. deandre washington appears to be the only guy on the team that brings it every week. 3 recruiting classes in, and we have not signed any real offensive weapons to my knowledge. no real overall improvement from the tuberville regime and theres not a whole lot to look forward to for this program. help does not appear to be on the way at any position.
i really hope we can turn this around, but for now we appear to be locked into that tier of big 12 schools that consist of kansas and iowa state. i think we can somehow surprise someone else along the way this season, but missing bowl season for the second consecutive year would absolutely bury us as a football program
hopefully we can get the “kys”, “tuberville's/leach’s fault”, “u r dumb”, and “mods pls ban” posts out of the way early, because its time for us to have a real discussion about the state of the programi think its fair to start honestly discussing whether or not kliff can ever get it done here
