That term, "Pink raider" has always struck me a pretty goofy. But if there is such a thing, I guess I have become one.
I am typically a "stay until the bitter end" type of fan. Considering I just love being in Jones Stadium anyway, and I like all the other pageantry of college football (I particularly like our band), I tend to stay until I can join the team in The Matador Song at game's end. Besides, after what is typically a 5.5 hour drive...why bug out early?
Not this time. I didn't have the 5.5 hour drive because I went to my weekend getaway place located between Graham and Breckenridge on Friday (by the way, I have a feeling deer and turkey season will be pretty productive this year....I have lots of both), so it was only a 3 hour drive. But it got extended a few minutes because I hit a deer outside of Post and I had to stop and inspect the damage and put the poor deer out of her misery. Damn I hate 11:00 am kickoffs.
Anyway....I pick up my son from his apartment and we have time to get a few cold ones at the Pavillion....great weather, a pick and score to start, "de bleeeemp" ....everything looking good. Then, yet another missed extra point and things just kept getting crappier and crappier after that....what a sh*t show.
My son looks over at me at half time and says "You about had enough of this?" I said "Yep." Then, he hits me with the roundhouse punch: "I bet they still have que' at Evie Mae's." I said "Let's go."
I haven't been this deflated about Tech football in a long time. What's worse, I don't think there's going to be any quick cure. Now that our facilities have improved so much (the SPC is truly impressive) I feel like we'll be able to get talent based on that....the play not withstanding. But even though I was a huge fan of the KK hire and I really wanted it to work out, it looks like that isn't going to happen. Now there'll likely be another rebuilding of staff. This could suck for many years to come. Man, what a bummer.
The beef rib at Evie Mae's was excellent, however.
