Saturday night around 9:15 I was sitting on the back patio when I saw an orange glowing ball come over the horizon. We live on a hill in Kerrville with a pretty long view and I’d estimate the horizon to be a solid 20 miles away. This thing was moving at what seemed like a similar speed to a slower airplane but the glow was much larger than that and it was surrounded by a bit of haze (seemed 100% clear outside but not always easy to tell at night)
Over the course of about 3-4 minutes this thing moved closer to me (west to east) and started to look more like a fireball without a tail, still surrounded by haze. At one point it emitted a dashed ring of light that grew bigger and bigger until it faded away, then the object appeared to turn upward and quickly fly out of sight.
I know I’m not crazy because my wife and daughter both saw it as well, but I’m very curious what it could have been. Just some weird drone? Air or spacecraft I’m unaware of (starlink was pretty crazy to see for the first time)? Secret government project? Alien overlords plotting their takeover?
I assume it’s something explainable, just couldn’t find anything online so I thought the geniuses here at RRS might know.
