As I sit here being unproductive, I have an internal debate on a hypothetical that can't happen without Santa Claus as many have asked for in the Round table thread above.
Would this team be better with (1) a returning healthy Patrick Mahomes and the existing recruiting class and players on d or (2) a recruiting addition equivalent to Myles Garrett at defensive end and Mahomes off to the NFL. This is just for next season as I think it's a no-brainer for the future of the program.
Initially I was all in on a Myles Garrett type end that changes our pass rush imstantly but then I thought about how bad it would suck to watch a defense get better with a new found pass rush only to have an offense with a struggling oline and a much less agile qb putting up Iowa State like offense performances each week and losing games 31-20 as opposed to 55-45.
Unfortunately we may have the worst of both worlds with no pass rush and a less agile qb running for his life but in my mind I have decided that all the lumps the oline took this year are going to payoff and we figure it out on offense like we always do so I am for sacrificing Mahomes to the NFL for the pass rusher. Somebody make that happen. Has to be a first round NFL pick caliber DE though.
