The early signing period for Tech basketball starts tomorrow. So, who exactly will sign with Tech, and when?
JUCO (South Plains) guard DeShawn Corprew - Corprew originally signed with A&M out of high school a year ago. But, has been committed to the Red Raiders for quite some time now, and it looks like Tech's going to end up the winner in this whole deal. I confirmed with a source that he's set to sign with Tech on Wednesday. He's been loyal since he pulled the trigger, which is huge, as I know some MAJOR blue blood programs have circled, including the likes of Louisville (pre-Pitino firing and FBI stuff) and a few others. Corprew is a true blue superstar in the making. He can play any position on the court from the 1 to the 4 depending on the situation as a 6-5 athlete with a ton of skill. In fact, some would tell you he would be the best player on the team THIS year if he was on it. Huge, huge get here. Go check him out at South Plains this fall if you get a chance.
UPDATE (4:47 p.m.): DeShawn Corprew has signed.
Findlay Prep guard Kyler Edwards - Edwards will sign with Tech on Wednesday, as I confirmed it with him this afternoon. Edwards committed to Tech back in September after a surprise official visit. Before his trip out to Lubbock, he was set to visit Mizzou and had listed SMU as the favorite. However, his visit went extremely well, and he decided on the Red Raiders. Edwards is a combo guard you could play from the 1 to the 3 depending on how you want to utilize him. Shooter with some size at 6-5 that can drive the paint, too.
UPDATE (7:05 p.m.): Edwards has signed as well.
And one more possibility...
Oak Hill Academy guard Keyontae "Red" Johnson - Johnson is the final wild card in this whole deal. He visited Tech in late September on an official, same weekend that Corprew came in for his official from South Plains. He's listed a final four of Florida, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Texas Tech. It sounds like Florida might be the favorite here. He'll make his decision this weekend. We're trying to get in touch with him for an interview on it. Johnson is a guy who could play the 2, 3, or maybe even the 4 depending on the lineup. He's another 6-5 guy, great athlete that likes to play up around the rim on both ends of the court.
That's likely it for the early signing period. Tech will try and focus on finding some post players in the late period over the next few months.
