For a number of West Texas sports religions, "100 Days To Kickoff" for Texas Tech football remains a solemn day on the sports calendar. There are many traditions to honor this date.

Some use this marker as their first official 9-win predicition post, 10 wins if things fall right. Others, often beginning with their fathers, continue the traditional old-school route by making frequent pilgramamages to Barnes & Noble to search for Athlon's, Lindy's and other college football preview magazines that begin to make their appearance around Memorial Day.

Then there are those who use "100 Days" like a Football Festivus, and the Airing of Grieveances. @RestlessRaider and @lawdawgredraider traditionally gather the family in the study with cookies and beverages, and they carefully craft on the laptop several versions of the first "So-and-So should be fired tonight," or if the opener is a road game, "So-and-so should be fired at the airport." With the first game at 6 p.m. on August 31, expected release is usually 8 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. that night.

This date has become more recognized on the sports calendar than the day bowl bids were issued during the Matt Wells and Kliff eras, more commonly known as Passover.

So, to all who celebrate, Happy 100 Days!
