To quote Coach Wells, "its Duffy's ball."

We have no choice but to take the long view. It's been 10-years since Leach was fired. The Tuberville and Kliff experiments failed. We have been bouncing along at rock bottom for almost 5-years.

Wells deserves time. Pointing to Wells for the recruiting failures Kliff patched together after 6 years is ridiculous. This team will be playing for pride. Some of our guys (i.e. Vasher) might go to the next level. We might win from 0 to 3 more games. Calling for Wells' head for every cringe-worthy mistake is absurd. That's not who we are now, nor what we have been for some time.

The thing to watch for this year is whether Wells builds a culture. We should be able to see some of that over the next couple of months. Are we competitive in losses? Does our secondary start wrapping up on tackles? How does the OL grade? Does Duffy catch enough fire for us to steal a win here or there? Is there a chance to bring in a one-or-two year QB from another program?

We've been there with our men's basketball team. Tubby's Big 12 record in his first two seasons was 6-12 and 3-15 following the Pat Knight/Gillespie/Walker fiasco, after which he took the team to the Tournament.

In Tubby's first seasons, we saw glimpses of hope with wins over ranked Baylor, Okie Lite & Iowa State. We also had to suffer through a humiliating loss to Texas A&M-Commerce and being outclassed by the rest of the conference.

Beard's Big 12 record was 6-12 in his first season, but you could start to see it. That year we knocked off then #4 Baylor & #25 K-State, had one-point losses to #3 Kansas & #7 West Virginia and a 4-points loss to #5 Baylor.

We saw the signs. That's what we need to be looking for now.
