“Besides his three 9+ win seasons and five bowl appearances in six years, and twice being named conference coach of the year, he was a total loser at Utah State. The good seasons he had at Utah State were just because he inherited Gary Anderson’s team and because he had a generational talent at QB. Sure, Utah State re-hired Anderson then fired him after going 7-9 with an 11-win roster he inherited from Wells, and sure, Jordan Love fell off a cliff after Wells and Yost left, but still. And sure, Anderson’s best success at Utah State came with Wells as OC, but still. It all speaks volumes about how Wells is only good because of Anderson and Jordan Love, who have both severely underperformed when they’re not attached to Wells.”
