hello ladies and gentlemen, hope you are all doing well this week
people were wondering where I was, and I'm right here...just stepped back to give way to all this MBB coverage from the @squad
I figured a Friday Flare would be a good way to go into the weekend. @B. Golan and I have Rivals Camp this weekend, so football recruiting coverage will be back in full swing next week...
...but for now, commits or no commits, I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE
Coppell OT Alvin Ebosele
Tech offered - early March 2021
Total offers - 12, including offers from conference rivals Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma State and TCU
"Right now things are going good, it is fun and nice to see all the coaches showing interest in me. I have mostly been talking with Coach (Luke) Wells, Coach (Steve) Farmer and Coach (Preston) Pehrson from Texas Tech. It is going pretty good so far. I had a Zoom call with them recently and learned more about Texas Tech and the program. What stood out to me was the campus, it looks amazing out there. The coaches did not really talk about a specific position, but mentioned they like the way I play and my size. I play left tackle now for Coppell.
"I have an official visit planned with Oklahoma State and I'm getting one setup with Baylor. I'm still working on setting up others."
Texas High OLB Derek Brown
Tech offered - early February 2021
Total offers - 22, including offers from conference rivals Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas
"Most college coaches like my quickness, and they say I have a quick twitch and they like my length and ability to use my hands well. A lot of schools see me playing a hybrid defensive end or outside linebacker position in college. I have been talking with the Texas Tech coaches for a while, and Coach (Matt) Wells actually texted me during the camp today. The Tech coaches are telling me that I could be a quick impact player for them on defense. We haven't done a Zoom meeting or virtual visit yet, but we are getting one setup soon.
"I'm planning visits to Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Baylor, Texas Tech and a lot of other schools for later this summer."
Bixby (OK) TE Luke Hasz (2023)
Tech offered - late January 2021
Total offers - 21, including offers from conference rivals Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State
"I have been playing outside receiver and moving around the offense, but I will be switching to more of a tight end role this next season. With recruiting, it is still very early, but I'm enjoying the proceand I'm super blessed to be in the position that I am. I'm mostly taking my time and learning more about each school. With the Texas Tech coaches, I mostly communicate with Coach (Julian) Wilson and he is going to introduce me to the tight ends coach soon. He liked my film and I love what Texas Tech is doing with their tight ends on the roster."
Pope John Paul II OC Caden Kitler
Tech offered - no offer, just a target
Total offers - 27, including offers from Army, Air Force, UConn, Houston, Memphis, UTSA, Washington State and a handful of Ivy League programs
"I'm doing well, just working on getting my footwork down and trying to master my hand placement and positioning once I get set, and I have seen a lot of progress this off-season. I had a personal record in track yesterday too, I hit 54.9 in shotput and won in discus too. Yes, I'm still in communication with the Texas Tech coaches. I started talking with Coach (Matt) Wells a few weeks ago, and I'm still talking with Coach (DeAndre) Smith and Coach (Preston) Pehrson. We are mostly texting one another and staying in touch.
"I'm trying to get a few official visits planned right now, plus a few unofficial visits to schools closer to home like Texas Tech."
The Woodlands OT Kaden Sieracki
Tech offered - no offer, just a camp standout
Total offers - 0, interest from UCF and New Mexico State
"The camp was great, I learned a lot in the classroom setting and a lot more than I thought that I already knew about playing the position. I won the OL MVP today, and I'm really glad that I made the trip to come compete today. I do not have any offers, but I'm not sure a lot of college coaches have seen me in person, because I went from 6-foot-5 to 6-foot-8 over the off-season. My high school coaches told me that coaches from UCF and New Mexico State have reached out with interest. I'm working on losing some bad weight, plus working on my run blocking and finishing blocks."
At 6-foot-8, 320-pounds, I wanted to highlight Kaden because he did win Camp MVP and has all the size, tools and skill for a college coach to develop him over a 2-3 year period...in my humblest of opinions as an armchair talent analyst
Odessa Permian OG Harris Sewell (2023)
Tech offered - early February 2021
Total offers - 14, including offers from conference rivals Baylor, Kansas, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas
"Things are going pretty good with the Texas Tech coaches, Coach (Sonny) Cumbie is from West Texas and knows a lot about where I come from and Coach (Steve) Farmer is pretty cool too. I have been calling them a little bit, and we talk for 10 minutes or so. I'm a 2023 prospect, so I have to engage the communication and setup the calls. We have talked about playing Center or Guard at the next level, and the coaches love my aggressiveness and how I finish people and come off the ball fast. My Mom is from Lubbock, so you could say that I'm pretty familiar with Texas Tech. I have driven through the town and the campus quite a bit over the years visiting family in the area."
2021 Recruiting - The Numbers
The coaches have 99 total offers out to 2021 prospects, including four (4) new offers from over the past few weeks...
WR, Dillon Bell - the TTU coaches offered young Dillon on April 1st, and the three-star standout now holds 22 total offers from programs around the country
ATH, Caleb Douglas - the TTU coaches offered young Caleb on April 1st, and the three-star standout now holds 15 total offers from programs around the country...listed as an ATH, the coaches see him playing WR at the next level
OL, Jaylen Early - the TTU coaches offered young Jaylen on April 3rd, and the four-star Rivals 250 prospect now holds 32 total offers from programs around the country
OL, Cameron East - the TTU coaches offered young Cameron on April 2nd, and the three-star standout now holds 13 total offers from programs around the country
Visits this June?
It appears that the NCAA will begin allowing official visits in June, however this is not confirmed. A lot of college programs, including your Red Raiders, are working under the assumption visits are 'back' this summer and have joined the trend of inviting prospects for official visits - see graphic below
obviously there are zero commitments now in the 2021 class, but we have all seen how impactful the official or unofficial visit has been for the TTU coaches when getting kids to Lubbock and on campus.
the @recruiting team might have a few more names, but here are the prospects who have announced a visit to Texas Tech this summer...
DE, Curlee Thomas
ILB, Trevell Johnson (Texas commit)
ATH, Major Everhart
ATH, Maurion Horn
have a great weekend everyone!
