... This game reminded me of last year's win over Baylor in several ways. First, Texas Tech was ahead the entire game and the score was never all that competitive. Second, there was a backs-against-the-wall angle for Kliff Kingsbury and this Red Raider team and they responded with a win when they absolutely had to have it. Third, David Gibbs' defense gave up yards in bunches but forced four turnovers and didn't give up much cheap stuff.

... Texas Tech's offense had a pretty forgettable performance against a below average Baylor defense. Granted, the unit's opportunities were limited to just nine drives due to defense and special teams scores - I'm not counting drives at the end of each half here - but the Red Raiders averaged just 5.7 yards per snap against a Bear defense that entered the game allowing 7.4 against conference opponents and were just 4-of-10 on third-downs. That's not ideal heading into matchups against two of the Big 12's top three defenses.

... The Red Raiders' special teams unit was a plus today. They started the game off with a score, had one of the biggest heads-up moment of the season with the fair catch on the onside kick attempt and connected on all of their PAT and field goal attempts.

... This was a game that Texas Tech was supposed to win, had to win and ultimately won easily. The Red Raiders will need to pull an upset if they want to improve at all on last season's 5-7 mark.
