That felt better, a lot better. There was a lot of good, and a fair amount of bad, but it was a completely different story than that of last weekend in Morgantown.
Once again, just some thoughts as we go…
-Behren Morton, who had the shoulder injury this week, looked really solid. Tech’s offense went back to the quick game and screen game in the boundary. It worked and it was a lot of what made you really solid last year. Not sure why it was abandoned, but it was here this week.
-Cam Valdez finally flashed what we wanted to see from him. A really big run made his day look really good, then you add a 41-yard touchdown rush to it. Excellent day, he is here.
-Tahj was once again Tahj. Found the end zone and made life easy in the pass blocking game. He is extremely fun to watch.
-Loic Fouonji had a massive day, the two touchdowns, with one coming on the blocked punt.
-Special teams were special, the aforementioned blocked punt and the kickoff return from McCray. McNamara was good and Gino did what was asked.
-The defense really, really struggled, especially in the first half. All around. The secondary wasn’t great and was missing Dadrion Taylor-Demerson for quite a while. Tech really couldn’t cover and were not pressuring Donovan Smith consistently.
-You are really banged up on that side of the ball. Lot of true freshmen getting meaningful snaps, and it will need to be better.
-You are on the right track and now head to Waco to face a massively struggling Baylor squad. Should be an interesting one.
