The usual disclaimer here is a hot shooting night from any one or more persons can wreck the best of game plans. Right? We all know that. 5 nights of hot shooting is what got Texas stuck with Shaka Smart.
MSU likes to score in transition when they have an opportunity. That seems to be a bad matchup for teams against Texas Tech.
MSU likes to ball screen. That seems to be a bad matchup for teams against Texas Tech.
Spartans took 70...70 shots I said against Duke's 57 shots to beat the Blue Devils by a point. I contend Duke lost that game. MSU shot 6 free throws. Cassius Winston carried them and needed 23 shots to score 20 points.
I know, I know everyone loves Izzo and Michigan State in this game. I just don't see it. What am I missing? This MSU team just isn't that great. Sure they are tough enough, I mean there are only four teams left. They beat Bradley, Minnesota, LSU, and Duke. I know Tech lost to Duke many months ago, and I know Tech today would roll Duke. I know they would. LSU would not break 50 against this Tech team.
Winston is a good player, I mean he had 10 assists and 1 turnover against Duke. But he's also a guy who will settle for taking the shot. They can bog down, and Tech is really good at bogging teams down anyway.
In the regular season, Tech didn't lose to any weak sisters. Every team they lost to made the tourney. Michigan State got swept by sad sack Indiana (who couldn't win at home in the NIT). They lost to Illinois for goodness sakes. Can Tech beat teams that lost to Indiana and Illinois? Man I sure think so.
Raiders are going to get good looks Saturday night, it will be on Tech to knock down the shots. I don't mean to imply or say outright that Tech is just going to show up and Michigan State will roll over, it's not like that. Raiders will have to play hard, focused basketball for 40 minutes. I like their chances of doing that.
For the Michigan game I said I didn't see a way that Michigan could score enough points to win, or prevent Texas Tech from scoring.
It's like deja vu all over again, because I don't see how Michigan State is going to score enough points to win, or how MSU is going to prevent Texas Tech from scoring.
