That was a solid win for Texas Tech, obviously plenty to clean up, but it’s a win that was close to the projection from most sites, so nothing hurt.
Good Shooting Performance Again: Tech once again shot it well in this one. It wasn’t raining threes like in the opener, but Kerwin Walton hit some big shots early and knocked down his looks for the most part. Big for this team to be able to find looks without their primary ball handlers on the floor, hopefully that is remedied soon, for many reasons.
Red Raiders Lackluster Defensively & On Boards: The Demons were able to get quality looks all night and it largely stemmed from Tech inability to guard the ball very well. Tech was lost in rotations all night and frankly got bailed out by NWST’s lackluster shooting numbers, we’ll see what it looks like moving forward, but all you can hope is that Tech is able to improve.
Williams off scoring, but great as facilitator: Wasn’t D5’s best night with the scoring touch, despite a nice move in the paint that got him a bucket, but it was the facilitating that helped the Red Raiders find a win. Posting 11 assists on the night, Williams was finding teammates with strong passes off a no-look.
Overton stronger offensively: Overton did a better job offensively, playing with a bit more physicality and willingness to get downhill. Seems like that is one of his strengths and hopefully Tech can see a bit more of that moving forward.
Toppin with another nice showing: The prized transfer from New Mexico had another big day offensively. Effective in the low post and was able to knock down his opportunities, alongside a nice lay with the right hand late in the second half. Hopefully that’s a sign of things to come.
