All in all, pretty strong win. Never really felt like Tech was out of control and the Red Raiders, while not playing a perfect game, did enough to get out of Ohio with a fourth Big 12 road win to open conference play, the first time since Tech joined the conference in 1996-97.
Some quick thoughts…
-Big day from Christian Anderson, kid just continues to show signs of growth. It has been pretty impressive to watch his journey as a freshman. Knocked down some really, really tough shots in the first half to help build the lead.
-Toppin continues to get his feet back under him, especially offensively. That’s a second straight game with 20-plus points. Had that big finish with the foul late in the second half and was able to hold up defensively against a very lengthy team.
-Tech did a much better job of rebounding than I anticipated coming into this one. Big day one the glass with double-digit offensive boards for double-digit second chance points.
-Overton, for as bad as he was defensively, really provided a spark for Tech. I really think that those threes were able to get Tech going. So kudos there.
-Really tough day for D5. Didn’t shoot it well, didn’t look as explosive and was worse from a decision making perspective than he has been.
-Tech’s shooting led to this one. The ability to make tough shots was able to bail Tech out of some bad offensive possessions. Tech just always found the answer to the runs that Cincinnati had. Great job to close it out against a tough team to score against on the road.
