Science and Hard Science is posted on this board almost every day.
I recently had a long discussion about religion and science with an old friend and really got nowhere...well he visited with a mutual friend who called me and wanted to discuss Religion and Science
he asked about the Multi verse.
so I told him that the multi verse ....well someone did not sit around and dream up the multiverse.
that science of inflation took us to the theory
"what is inflation?"
"well we don't know...it explains the uniformity of what we see in the universe"
"what does that mean?" he asked.
"what is the multiverse? I hear that but I don't know what it means? more than this universe?"
"well yes...like soap bubbles"
He got lost and the discussion quickly went to "I have a soul"
"well, what do you think a soul is?" I asked
I tried to explain to him that you can't learn science in a day. You can't even learn the definitions
How can I explain inflation to you? I asked?
"what do you mean uniformity?" I mean he had no clue to even what uniformity means with this universe
"I know my god is real"
You can't discuss science with someone who does not even know the words of science or what they mean.
"dark energy" "what is that?" Where do I begin to explain to him why we even ask the question of why we know dark energy is there?
a handful of humans might watch a youtube video on science or the expansion of the universe or buy a science book.
You ask them what they think Quantum Physics is and you might as well be asking them the difference between Hillary Clinton and Obama. They are clueless There are no words for them. no meaning in the words
in other words they have no vocabulary of the natural world...it is so much easier to just say
God did it. what I am finally realizing is why most humans are still in the Iron Age..they know how to use a cell phone but have no more understanding of how it works than they do why smoke singles did.
I asked him "what do you think an atom is?"
"well its a tiny thing that makes up things"
"Well yes.....in a way...do you know what atomic energy is?"
"not really" he said...
I asked him what the thought fire was> only silence.
The point is ...Iron age nonsense is dominate ....you will accept your local wood spirt because you have no idea what science is. I know some are somewhat dimly aware of some of it...but that is not the reason more pews are turning up empty.
