Cutting the cord has had a profound impact on all sports media, especially ESPN. I listened to the parent company conference call after Disney earnings. A shareholder activist took a stake in Disney and wants to spin out ESPN.

I doubt this would be good for ESPN, with the loss of deep pockets of Disney. As the economics of TV packages with conferences gets out of hand, I doubt they are financially sustainable over the next ten years based on fewer eyeballs watching.

The over the top companies Amazon, Apple TV, Netflix are in the opposite shape they have very deep pockets and can pay big time where the legacy networks are in a world of hurt especially if we go into a severe recession. I am now thinking to get a head of the curve with our next TV contract, for the Big 12 to sign a long term contract with Apple, Amazon or an over the top provider.
