Subject: Making DFW Athletic Realignment Districts Fair for 2020-2022
Director Elza & Board Members:
As a long time resident, parent of an athlete, and sports fan in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, I was anxious to see your UIL Reclassification & Realignment 2020-2022 student enrollments and breakdowns of your 6A and 5A classifications. While you look to be trying to make fair competition for the competing schools, I would like to propose you take it a step farther when you issue your new districts on February 3, 2020. This fair realignment of districts could be done in all of the large metro areas that contain many schools, but since I am from the DFW area I propose you put all or most of the 4000+ student mega schools in one district. This district could include the following schools:
1) Allen HS 6,959 students
2) Plano East HS 5,579 students
3) Plano West HS 5,445 students
4) Plano SR. HS. 4,999 students
5) Duncanville HS 4,529 students
6) Lewisville HS 4,468 students
7) Arlington Houston HS 4,204 students
8) Skyline HS 4,189 students
9) Coppell HS 4.088 students
Closely followed by:
10) Lewisville Hebron 3,787 students
11) Arlington Martin 3,674 students
12) Lewisville Flower Mound 3,651 students
13) Euless Trinity 3,618 students
14) South Grand Prairie 3,340 students
15) Lewisville Marcus 3,094 students
16) Hurst Bell 3,087 students
17) McKinney HS 3,049 students
Since you have already considered the student enrollment numbers in your realignment and reclassification numbers, you must realize it is most often very hard for 6A schools with student numbers in the 2220 to 2999 student populations for instance to compete with these 4000+ student populations. Please do the right thing for our student athletes of the state in your coming district realignments. It just makes sense.
Regards,
