I caught up with the father of 2024 top 30 point guard Jamari Phillips for a quick Q&A earlier today. I’m repeating that these aren’t Jamari’s quotes, they’re from his dad.

Last week Phillips announced his top six, which consists of Texas Tech, Gonzaga, Kansas, Louisville, Oregon + UCLA.

Thoughts on Tech: “They have been with Jamari from the beginning. They’re doing a good job recruiting him. He hasn’t worn UA since third grade and wasn’t for sure if he would ever again but he has real interest in TT.

Of the 6 schools he holds dearest, they have been recruiting him the longest and that means something to him.”

Who at Tech is recruiting him: “Coach Adams and the assistants.”

Visit plans to Tech: “Hoping to take an official after January but could be earlier. They will get a visit.

As a family we are excited to visit.”

Commitment timeline: “I imagine Jamari commits sometime next June.

His focus as of now is winning a state title which would likely make him California Gatorade Player of the Year.”

NIL: “Our advisors say that (winning Gatorade Player of the Year) would go along way towards college NIL.

NIL won’t be the thing that makes or breaks (his decision) but it’s here so…”

Tech fans: “The fans are doing a great job of helping them too.

They interact with him more than the other schools and as a kid, that may be a deciding factor.”
