This is something I have followed quietly for years. Many years ago I exchanged a number of emails with CFTC member Bart Chilton (who recently passed away). He told me way back at that time in some emails that he believed there were efforts taking place to manipulate trading in the precious metals markets but that it was very hard for them to prove. Looks like the DOJ finally got some results with at least one entity per this news:

There are still other entities under investigation and and a lot of class action lawsuits have also been filed. Not sure where that all stands, but this news will just ramp up the efforts on those civil suits I am sure.
