Dallas Morning News has a pretty in-depth piece today on the Big 12 with the consensus being perception is worse than reality for the conference. The 15% increase in payout that is now third among all conferences, the return of the Big 12 title game as an additional metric, and renewed stability are all seen as positives going forward.
Big 12 takes a big hit on this board, -- much of it deserved from the Longhorn Network to no backbone with Baylor, to a public fiasco of expansion last year -- but it's in the best interest of Tech to have a strong Big 12.
We're not going anywhere for at least eight years until the TV contracts are up, and if we don't get our house in order in football, we may be on the outside looking in if Texas and OU leave at that time. I'm not nearly as confident now as in the past that we will have a seat at the Big Boy Table on the next seismic shift in conferences -- if there is one.
