Texas Tech made one final addition to its case for the upcoming bowl season with a gritty road win against Texas on Thanksgiving. The win marked the first time the Red Raiders topped the Longhorns in Austin since 1997 and allowed Kliff Kingsbury to capture his first ever win over Texas as a player or coach. The Longhorns entered the game knowing they needed to win in order to keep their bowl hopes alive and the Red Raiders were able to match Texas' intensity and physicality and leave Austin with a win.
Now the Red Raiders must wait to find out when and where they will play the final game they have earned after rallying from a 4-8 campaign last season to a 7-5 finish this year.
Here's a look at where many national pundits project the Red Raiders to land during bowl season:
Brett McMurphy, ESPN: Texas Tech vs. Georgia in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2.
Pete Fiutak, Campus Insiders: Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29
Stewart Mandel, Fox Sports: LSU vs. Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.
Brandon Chatmon, ESPN: Texas Tech plays in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2.
Zac Ellis, Sports Illustrated: Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M in the Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2.
Jerry Palm, CBS Sports: Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.
Bill Bender, Sporting News: Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.
Mark Schlabach, ESPN: Texas Tech vs. Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.
DuPont's Prediction: In a perfect world, the projections would prove true and Texas Tech would end up facing Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl. An extra game of football is enough to motivate most, but a matchup against Kliff Kingsbury's former school should be more than enough motivation for the Red Raiders to represent their program in a Big 12/SEC matchup. It would be a favorable matchup for the Texas Bowl and the first time since 2007 that the game would feature in-state opponents.
