...of old "Spike Speaks" and the "Double T Times".

Some of these go back over 20 years.

It's good to read Bill Peters' style again.

"I was standing on the sidelines watching Tech's defense hustle onto the field. Aggie cornerback Ray Mickens had just made a fair catch of Brad Cade's punt at the A&M 14 yardline. The scoreboard clock showed 46 seconds left and a 7-7 count in one of the greatest defensive slugfests ever seen in Jones Stadium. Strength Coach Kelvin Clark was standing next to me shouting, "Okay defense, get out there and win it!"

Suddenly somebody put a vice-like grip on my arm and yelled , "Bill the defense is gonna win it! I'm tellin' ya now, they're gonna do it!" It was ex-Red Raider Clyde "Dog" Windom, one of the Tech's greatest supporters and most colorful characters. Even through sunglasses, his eyes looked as big around as moon disks on a '57 Chevy. He stalked off screaming at the field and shaking his fist. People, I know you won't believe this, but at that moment, I knew this game was not going to end in a tie. It occurred to me that A&M might luck into something and win it, but I also felt that Tech could get a turnover that would give kicker Tony Rogers one more shot. Well, assuming you're anywhere this side of a Tibetan monastery, you know that's what happened. The fire and soul of the "Blitz Brothers", middle linebacker Zach Thomas, stepped in front of a Corey Pullig pass and rolled 23 yards down the east sideline for a touchdown. Rogers came on to bang home the extra point and Tech ended A&M's 29 game winning streak, and they did it in front of one of the largest crowds ever at Jones Stadium."

RIP Bill, gone far too young, but thanks for the memories.
